About Lakeshore ComicsOur Story

We are comic book writers and artists working to bring our stories to the world. We are currently developing a fantasy-based miniseries called Broken Trident. Its first issue was successfully funded on Kickstarter in March 2022. We also created a manga titled How to Build an Army, which takes place in the same universe on the other side of the world. These books are entry points into the larger universe we are building, with much more to come. Visit each series page for more details, then continue below to meet the team.

Meet the Creative Team

David Steinborn, co-founder of Lakeshore Comics

David Steinborn

Co-founder of Lakeshore Comics

My name is David Steinborn, but please call me Dave. I have been reading comics for most of my life, and I have dreamed of writing them since I was 10 years old. My brother, Travis, and I began writing together as kids, but life got in the way before we could accomplish that dream. About 20 years later, I found myself playing D&D with a group of friends. My favorite part was writing my characters’ backstories. After creating several lengthy, in-depth stories, my creativity was sparked again and I knew I had to do something with it. Those backstories became starting points for this comic series. Broken Trident is my first comic series, and I am excited to share it with the world.

Travis Bowen is Dave Steinborn’s brother and co-founder of Lakeshore Comics. The two began writing together as kids and later returned to their shared dream of creating comics. Travis helps bring the stories and expanding universe of Lakeshore Comics to life.

Ailer Azusano, writer, artist, inker, and colorist

Ailer Azusano

Writer / Artist / Inker / Colorist

I met Ailer through a D&D fantasy art Facebook page and commissioned him to draw several characters for our group. He did a fantastic job. When we decided to create a comic book, he was the first person we approached about bringing our words to life. It worked out perfectly because the first character I asked him to draw became the main character of Broken Trident. Ailer is our artist, inker, and colorist, and he and Oliver also created How to Build an Army. We are proud to present their work under the Lakeshore Comics name.

Oliver Yelo, comic artist

Oliver Yelo

Comic Artist

Oliver is a relatively new comic artist. With Ailer filling a jack-of-all-trades role in the art department, we decided to bring on additional help. Ailer recommended Oliver, a friend and past collaborator who worked with him on How to Build an Army. We could not be happier with his work.

Meet the Technical Team

Derek Knoblich, video editor

Derek Knoblich

Video Editor

Derek Knoblich is not only my best friend, but also the best video editor I know. When he is not editing, he is busy being one of the most memorable pirates at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival—and he has the hat to prove it. Derek produced the Kickstarter video for Broken Trident.

Steve Kruger, music composer

Steve Kruger

Music Composer

Steve Kruger has been a good friend of mine for many years and has played guitar for most of his life. When I approached him about producing music for the Kickstarter video, he was immediately excited. In addition to playing and writing music, Steve works as an engineer and patent agent. As the photo shows, he may also possess guitar-levitating powers.
